November 29: Apparition of Our Lady of Beauraing, Belgium (1932)

On evening of November 29, 1932, five children, fun-loving, mischievous playmates, ranging from the 15 to 9 years of age, were walking toward railway viaduct in Vallon part of Belgium, in simple &  quiet village of Beauraing.

Suddenly one of them exclaimed that there was a bright light moving at viaduct.
First they thought these lights of a moving car.
Very soon, however, they discovered figure of a lady, & they instantly recognized that this could be nothing less than Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of Beauraing.

Nobody wished to believe what children related.
But next evening they came home with same story.
The village laughed at them & their parents were angry.
The next time children related with more details that they'd seen a lady who was more beautiful than her statues, dressed in pure white, with a crown of golden rays on her head.

On December 2nd children asked lady some questions; she, smiling, confirmed that she was Immaculate Virgin & demanded they “always be good.”
As vision continued, more people came to Beauraing, including police officials, doctors & psychologists.

There were 33 apparitions in all.
On December 29th children related, Blessed Virgin revealed on her breast a heart of gold.
The next evening she asked for more prayers.
On January 1, 1933, Our Lady of Beauraing reiterated this request & told Fernande, the 15 year old girl:

“If you love my Son & love me, then sacrifice yourself for me.”

The Belgian bishops at beginning forbade any processions or cults & started an investigation that was to last for 10 years, during which serious objections were brought against children.
Finally, in 1943, a decree was issued by Bishop of Namur authorizing cult of Our Lady of Beauraing.

On July 18, 1947, Msgr. Charue personally received papal blessings for Sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Beauraing – Virgin of the Golden Heart.
This devotion has since taken on new & ever increasing proportions.

The final approbation was given on July 2, 1949.
The cures of Miss Van Laer & Mrs. Acar were declared miraculous by a decree given by Msgr. Charue.
Many conversions & graces have been obtained through intercession of Our Lady of Beauraing.
The editor of Belgian Communist paper, “Le Drapeau Rouge” (the Red Flag), was one of first to become Catholic at Shrine of Our Lady of Beauraing.

From Nov 29, 1932 to January 3, 1933, Mary appeared 33 times to playground of a convent school to 5 children. 

The children belonged to 2 families: the Voisins (Fernande, 15 years; Berthe, 13 years; & Albert 11 years) & Degeimbres (Andre, 14 years, & Gilberte, 9 years old). 

Identifying herself as "the Immaculate Virgin" & "Mother of God, Queen of Heaven," she called for prayer for conversion of sinners.

Nov 29, 1932

Albert & Fernande Voisin & Andree & Gilberte Degeimbre approached convent door to call for Gilberte Voisin as they did every night.
Albert ran ahead of girls & rang door to convent.
As he waited for a sister to come to door, he turned around & looked toward street & railroad bridge “Look! The Virgin, dressed in white, is walking above bridge!” he cried out.

The girls didn't believe him but when they turned around they saw figure of a beautiful Lady in white walking above bridge & grotto by convent with clouds covering her feet.
The sister who came to door couldn't see the Blessed Virgin Mary, but Gilberte Voisin did.

Dec 17, 1932	The Virgin Mary asks for a chapel to be built
Dec 21, 1932	The Virgin clearly states, "I am the Immaculate Virgin."
Dec 23, 1932	Our Lady states that she desires people to come on pilgrimage.
Dec 29, 1932	The Virgin opened Her arms in Her usual gesture of farewell. This time Fernande saw a Heart of Gold, surrounded by glittering rays. All the children witnessed this in remaining apparitions.
Jan 3, 1933	The Virgin Mary appears for final time at Beauraing.

Description of the Virgin

The Virgin Mary appeared as a beautiful lady in white walking above bridge & grotto by convent with clouds covering her feet.
The Virgin, with hands joined & turned toward sky, carried a rosary hanging from her right arm.
During 5 last apparitions, she showed a heart of gold, surrounded by rays, on her chest.

Visionaries

The children belonged to 2 families: Voisins (Fernande, 15 years; Berthe, 13 years; & Albert 11 years) & Degeimbres (Andre, 14 years, & Gilberte, 9 years old).
These working families were for most part non-practicing Catholics.

Messages

The Virgin Mary urged children to pray & sacrifice. She asked, "that people pray much," "that a chapel be built" (December 17, 1932), "that people come here in pilgrimage" (December 23).
She promised conversion of sinners.

All these points are common with Lourdes.
During 5 last apparitions, she showed a heart of gold, surrounded by rays, on her chest.

During 4th apparition (December 4) & 7th (December 21), she declared herself to be "the Immaculate Virgin" (analogous to Lourdes).
During last apparition (January 3, 1933), she added: "I'll convert sinners.
 I am the Mother of God, the Queen of heaven."
Twenty thousand persons were present that day.

The secrets given to children have never been revealed.

Miracles & Signs

After 4th apparition, there were sick people in crowd.
 The visionaries prayed Our Lady to heal them.
But it was only after last apparition that healings took place.
Here, however, matter begins to deteriorate.

A certain Come Tilman, 58 years old, became a visionary in his turn, & at first vision, he was healed of spondylitis.

However, a medical & psychic examination of visionary, made on June 1934, was negative.
Meanwhile, similar apparitions multiplied in Belgium.
 It was thus that in 1935, Holy Office turned examination of matter over to Primate of Belgium, Cardinal Van Roy.

During apparition of December 8th, Dr. Maistriaux, Dr. Lurquin & other doctors were there to pinch, slap, prick & shine flashlights in children eyes.
There was no response from children during Lady's visit.

Dr. Lurquin took a lighted match to Gilberte Voisin's left hand; still there was no response.
After apparition Dr. Lurquin looked to see what damage match had done.
There was no sign of injury.

Church Approval

André Marie Charue, Bishop of Namur released a document to Clergy in Diocese declaring that Queen of Heaven did appear to children. approved the apparitions on February 2nd, 1943.
The Feast Day of The Virgin of the Poor is August 22nd.

Prayer

O virgin of the Poor, May you ever be blessed!
And blessed be He who deigned to send you to us.
What you have been & are to us now, you'll always be to those who, like us, & better then us, offer their faith & their prayer.

You'll be all for us, as you revealed yourself at Banneux: Mediatrix of all graces, the Mother of the Saviour, Mother of God.

A compassionate & powerful Mother who loves the poor & all People, who alleviates suffering, who saves individuals & all humanity, Queen & Mother of all Nations, who came to lead all those who allow themselves to be guided by you, to Jesus the true & only Source of eternal life.
